Be Like Mike? I don't think so...

It makes me a little crazy when I hear anyone say that "If I can do it, you can do it." The most recent case in point being the swimmer Michael Phelps: winner of a gazillion gold medals at the Summer Olympics. As delightful and amazing a fellow as he seems to be, his use of that phrase sent me completely over the edge. He was genetically gifted with arms characterized as "wingspan" and feet referred to as "flippers". (I don't know about you but when I hear the word "wingspan" I expect to see jet engines somewhere in the vicinity.) Ultimately if I were a combo of Gumby, Rocky the Flying Squirrel, and Flipper I could probably win a couple of gold medals too. The bottom line is that he was gifted with the tools and he coupled them with an intense desire to succeed.
I have the tools to write a blog … my head, my hands and the venue. And I’ve finally worked my way through the 3 stages of “blog grief” (denial, frustration and acceptance). Now I’m surprisingly excited about writing a blog. Hopefully life won’t get in the way (is this denial again?)
